S.A.B. Movie Committee

The Student Activity Board (or S.A.B.) has a twofold purpose:
  1. To integrate the Christian faith and principles into planning activities for the student body;
  2. To implement a variety of cocurricular activities which provide social interaction, spiritual growth, and education for the student body and to foster community within the student body.
I have been a part of S.A.B. since entering college as an Associate Member helping out in the following committees : Coffeehouse, Ministries, Movies, and Special Activities.  While on these committees, I assisted in the grunt work to make the activities possible.  My senior year, I became one of two Movie Committee Executive.  As an Executive, I selected, ordered, and presented movies to the student body.  In addition, I was responsible for arranging room locations, notifying publicity about the upcoming dates and times for each movie.  A committee of around 25 students were under my leadership to collect money, stamp hands, and run the projector.  Once movies were shown, it was also my responsibility to return the movies back to the rental company in a timely manner.

During the 1997-98 school year, we showed 25 movies including Contact, Men in Black, One Fine Day, Jackie Chan’s First Strike, The Princess Bride, and A Time to Kill.  Some of our special engagements included an outdoor movie (drive-in style) for Chain Reaction and a double feature of Robin Hood's -- Men In Tights and Prince of Thieves.   In addition, we coordinated a few theme weekends with other committees.  For a skating weekend, Bonnie Blair spoke at a lyceum, the Special Activities Committee held a Midnight Ice Skate, and we showed The Cutting Edge.  For our Minority Open House, we cooperated with the Director of Minority Affairs and showed Rosewood that weekend.
